About State Surplus
State Surplus is our label for GovDeals lots located in California, Florida and Texas. Each of those states' surplus programs sells through GovDeals: California's Department of General Services, Florida's Department of Management Services and the Texas Facilities Commission. We select the lots by location, so the seller on one can be a state agency, a city, a county, a federal installation or a private company selling in the same state, and the seller name on each listing says which.
Every lot here is a GovDeals lot, so GovDeals' terms apply. Most carry a 12.5% buyer's premium, shown in the bid box. Items are as-is, pickup is from the seller's location unless the listing says otherwise, and removal deadlines usually run 7 to 10 business days.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a State Surplus lot show a company as the seller?
Because these lots are chosen by where they are, not by who sells them. State Surplus collects GovDeals lots located in California, Florida and Texas, and GovDeals carries sellers of every kind, so a lot can come from a state agency, a city or a private company. The seller name on the listing is the one you deal with.
Where do I bid on a State Surplus lot?
On GovDeals. Every lot in this source links to its GovDeals listing, and you register, bid and pay there under GovDeals' terms, including the buyer's premium of up to 12.5% shown in the bid box.
Do I have to live in the state to bid?
Usually not, but some states restrict certain lots, most often vehicles, to residents. Any restriction appears on the listing. Registration is generally free and open, and out-of-state buyers are common for equipment worth the transport.
What sells at state surplus auctions?
Highway department trucks and plows, university fleet and lab equipment, office furniture and IT hardware on refresh cycles, and confiscated goods from state police. The mix is predictable because it follows fixed replacement schedules rather than the market.
