About DLA Disposition Services
DLA Disposition Services is the part of the Defense Logistics Agency that disposes of surplus Department of Defense property. It does not run the public auctions itself: the lots we list are its sales on GovPlanet, which holds the contract to sell DLA's rolling stock. Expect Humvees above all, plus trucks, trailers and generators, demilitarised before sale.
Bidding, payment and pickup follow GovPlanet's terms. The buyer's premium is 15% on lots up to $10,000 and 10% above, never less than $1,500, and paying by card adds 2.95%. Many Humvees sell for off-road use with an SF97 form rather than a title, and removal from the military depot or DLA site is yours to arrange, usually within 15 business days of the invoice.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I bid on DLA surplus?
On GovPlanet. DLA Disposition Services sells its rolling stock to the public through GovPlanet under contract, so you register, bid and pay there, and GovPlanet's buyer's premium and removal terms apply.
Does a DLA Humvee come with a title?
Often not. Many sell for off-road use only, with an SF97 form instead of a title, and many are sold non-running. Read the IronClad inspection report on the listing literally, and check your state's rules before planning to register one.
Can the public buy DLA surplus?
Yes, through the commercial platforms that run DLA's public sales. Registration is open. Some categories carry end-use certificates or export restrictions and are flagged on the listing, and a small number of items are restricted to government or approved buyers only.
What does demilitarised mean in practice?
That the military capability has been removed before sale. Armour may be stripped, weapons mounts removed, and electronics destroyed or pulled. What you buy is the chassis, the engine and the body. It also means some vehicles arrive with holes where equipment used to be.
